Sam Gwirtz, Shelby linebacker, has been named the latest iHeart Radio "Athlete of the Week" - presented by the Neil Kadey Insurance Agency.
Gwirtz was recently named the Northwest District Defensive Player of the Year and is the top tackler on the Whippets defense with 128. Sam leads Shelby in tackles for loss (TFLs) with 21, plus has a defensive touchdown and safety this season for the Whippets defense, which is now allowing just 8.5 points per game.
Shelby in the last 9 games have given up a total combined 44 points, which is only 4.8 per game.
Shelby (13-0) will play Indian Hill (13-0) in the Division IV State Semi-Final on Friday, November 28th ( 7 p.m.) at Sidney High School. You can hear the game "live" on WMAN
