This Christmas season, historic downtown Shelby will shine a little brighter thanks to the generosity of two local families whose gifts celebrate both community and family legacy.
The Curry Family, honoring their parents, Linda and Denny Curry, has donated two beautiful Christmas trees that will bring new sparkle to the heart of downtown. A majestic 24-foot tree will illuminate Black Fork Commons Plaza, while a second tree will adorn the community bandstand, decorated by the Shelby Flower Girls, a local beautification group. The family has also provided a large holiday wreath for the plaza’s fireplace, adding a festive touch to this already inviting gathering space.
“Our parents loved Christmas and believed deeply in giving back to the community that gave so much to them,” said Steve Curry, son of Denny and Linda. “We hope these trees and decorations bring joy to families who gather downtown each holiday season, just as our family always loved doing together.”
Paul and Carolyn Armstrong are also spreading holiday cheer with a generous gift of two nine-foot nutcrackers that will stand proudly at the entrance to the plaza, creating a grand and welcoming entryway for visitors.
These meaningful contributions were made possible through collaboration with the Community Improvement Corporation of Shelby (CIC), the City of Shelby, and The Shelby Foundation.
“This is such a beautiful example of how generosity and community spirit continue to shape Shelby’s story,” said Carrie Kemerer, executive director of The Shelby Foundation. “Gifts like these will bring families together and fill our downtown with light and joy.”
