Mansfield OhioHealth Hospital To Give Out 50 Free Gun Lock Boxes, June 19

MANSFIELD, Ohio- OhioHealth is supporting a nationwide initiative to address the gun violence crisis facing children in our country. The health system is partnering with the Ad Council on a youth gun violence prevention campaign, called “Agree to Agree.” As part of that, OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital is giving away 50 gun lock boxes Thursday, June 19.

For three consecutive years, firearm injuries have been the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 17 in the United States. The Ad Council’s “Agree to Agree” campaign is the first of its kind to provide people with tangible actions that can help decrease the impact of gun related tragedies on children and teens in the United States. One of those actions includes locking up guns and keeping them out of reach of children, which is why OhioHealth is giving away free gun lock boxes at several care sites, including Mansfield Hospital.

“OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital treats a considerable number of victims of gun violence,” said Alexander Chapman, MD, trauma surgeon at Mansfield Hospital. “Death from gun violence is preventable, and we all have a role to play in protecting children and teens.”

The gun lock boxes will be given out from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday in the Mansfield Hospital lobby, as well as the Mansfield Hospital Medical Office Building lobby. Anyone in the Richland County and surrounding areas are welcome to pick one up. Visit OhioHealth.com/AgreeToAgree to explore ways you can help prevent gun violence before it happens.
