Mansfield City Council has approved spending $250,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds, toward the construction of an underground tunnel for the B&O Bike Trail connector.

According to RichlandSource.com, the 100 foot long tunnel, beneath Trimble Road, will eliminate safety concerns with the possibility of a pedestrian or someone riding a bicycle and colliding with a vehicle.

Mansfield engineer, Bob Bianchi, said he plans to also use $200,000 from permissive sales tax, along with asking the Richland county commissioners to use ARPA funds toward the project, and seeking a grant.  In the total, the tunnel is expected to cost over $940,000.
