Flag To Be Raised To Honor Veteran

The Richland County Joint Veterans Council will raise an American flag in memory of Shelby Army Veteran Donald Gies, Sr., in front of the Richland County Administration Building beginning Thursday, August 29, at six p.m. Gies served two years of active duty in the Korean War and six further years in the Army Reserve, and retired after 44 years of work at Shelby's Ohio Seamless Tube before passing away in 2004 at the age of 71. According to RichlandSource.com, the flag will be flown for 21 days, after which Gies’s name will be engraved on a brass name plate and added to a plaque listing previously-honored veterans in the foyer of the Richland County Administration Building.
